Meet your Reunion Organizers – Lula “Pearl” Mack & Rae Tucker
Lula “Pearl” (Tucker) Mack lives in Canton, MS, and is the daughter of the late Doris Dean Tucker, granddaughter of Henry and Alice (Clay) Tucker. Pearl grew up in Pickens and was raised by her grandparents due to her mother passing while she was a young child. She is the middle child of the family, her younger brother is Cleotha and her oldest brother Clyde has also passed on. Peal is married to Percy Mack, they are on the left side of the picture.
Rae Tucker lives in the Atlanta, GA area and is married to Lawrence Tucker. Lawrence is the son of Jimmie Lee Tucker, and his grandparents were also Henry and Alice (Clay) Tucker. Lawrence was raised by his parents in Chicago, IL with 6 of his 9 siblings. Rae and Lawrence are on the right side of the picture. He is Pearl’s first cousin. That picture is from the first time they met.
Rae has been researching the family tree for over five years after realizing that Lawrence didn’t know any of his family besides his parents and the siblings who grew up with him. Through research online and in person, surveying cemeteries, headstones, and archived public records, and tracking down family online through Google and Facebook, she got in touch with the family historian, Marie (Tucker) Harper, daughter of Henry “Mose” & Willie Mae (McMurtry) Tucker. Marie was able to connect Lawrence with his oldest sisters and brother, which he didn’t know existed, and she provided a wealth of information to help further the research. Lawrence met his oldest sister Shirley for the first time in October 2017. In April of 2018, they traveled with their kids to Pickens, MS, and were able to meet his other older sister, Ethel, for the first time, and that is the trip where they also met Pearl & Percy. Then in July of that year, they traveled to Chicago and met his oldest brother Eugene “Fox”. Since then they have returned to MS multiple times to meet & visit see family, and for Rae to continue her research. Rae and Pearl connected and decided it would be great to get the whole family together for a reunion since so many of the Tuckers and the Clays do not know their people. So many people in Canton, Pickens, Camden, and other areas nearby and in cities like Chicago are kin and don’t even know it. So the idea was born and planning moved forward. Covid-19 messed up the 2020 reunion plans, but 2023 is moving forward as planned and hopefully, there will be many more reunions in the future.
